Member of the Month Awards
Member of the Month Award - @WeabusUltimas (January)
Weabus wins the MOTM for the month of January for his hard work in putting together the newly re-formed Senior Council. He has been a power player within the Senior Council roster since the council's formation last year. Ever since its re-formation, he has communicated lines of effort to the community. He has put the Senior Council to work, itself producing many different concerns and actionable solutions for the community at large. Outside of the Senior Council, weabus is one of the more seasoned ARMA mission creators, and he enjoys being a weeb, the ultimate weeb.
Member of the Month Award - @Wulfie (February)
Wulfie is one of those members you cannot imagine the Fighting 13th without. He has been with us over seven years now and is one part of the chemical composition of the glue that holds us together. February was a particularly quiet month within the Fighting 13th--Wulfie made it still enjoyable to all members alike, by welcoming new recruits, hosting drunken parties in the public lobbies, and just generally being everywhere sort of.
Member of the Month Award - @MudFrogS1C (March)
"Flaps," as he is known, had what could be considered a fairly unforgettable month which damn near culminated in his permanent removal from the ranks of the 13th. Mud had the unfortunate circumstance of testing the structural strength of his recently acquired Corvette. In a rather misguided attempt to test the structural integrity of said fiberglass corvette, Mud found out the HARD way that in fact trees are tougher than fiberglass. Fortunately through either divine intervention, fate, luck, or perhaps the outstanding skills of the staff at Duke University Hospital Flaps and Aqua continue to fight along side us. If you don't know Mud get to know him. He is a kind , caring young man who loves his family. As Clan mates sometimes we don't really get to know the human side of our fellow members but this month has brought us all closer together in my opinion. We are so happy that Mud and WIlliam are doing well after an unforgettable month of calamity. Special shout out to Aqua who kept us all informed of the situation, which must have been very difficult to do. In reality this MOTM acknowledgement goes out to the entire Flaps family. Best wishes to all for a speedy recovery.
The Senior Council has been reorganized into a 10--person group. The Senior Council of before was too large (pushing 30 members--included all Senior Members) for its sort of ad hoc structure. Its membership was not made up of members who necessarily wanted a role in policy, strategy, and planning for the community. Now, Senior Council membership is on a volunteer-basis, still comprising of Senior Members, however. Senior Council meetings take place regularly, about once a month. Its leader, currently Chairman weabusultimas, provides leadership with a trench-level view of the state of the community: what games people are playing, what people are saying, what people like, what people do not like, and ways to fix what's wrong with us.
If you have something you would like discussed with the Senior Council, please send a DM to @WeabusUltimas.
Discord Role Changes
Discord Role changes are coming. The current role makeup has members receiving a different 'company' role to opt-in to any mentions and news that company might have. This has become confusing to roster managers and members alike. A simple fix is coming--'Company/Unit' Roles are staying; members will only be allowed one role (the role of the unit to which they are actually assigned). We will be creating different game roles, one for each game the community actively plays together. Members may be allowed to be assigned as many of these roles as they wish.
World of Warships / Hydras Company / Stingrays Company News
Most groups saw a decline in activity over the last several weeks. That was not the case for our WOWS group. A recap of what has happened with them:
We saw the end of clan battles in January. We started strong attaining 'Storm League' status within the first week, a clan record. Mid-clan battles we saw a massive increase in our daily player base, and with that we were able to run two teams at times (14 players)! As we pushed for the next rank we found ourselves two wins away from the 'Hurricane League,' but that goal soon fell from our grasp. There is always next time. Honourable mentions:
@howells5 for most games played
@L.A.M.Gunner for exceptional commander skills.
This was an interesting month for us WOW players. Wargaming introduced a new game design which resulted in much hand-wringing and anger among the community, causing some of our guys to break away from the game. We also lost our beloved leader Swiss turning the hydra division into further despair. Both @Capt_Teek and @Predacon have taken leader duties. This has resulted in some changes within the division. We now have an informal council to help decide our actions going forward.
Also, we held our annual cup in commemoration for the fallen hero @Stormwolfe for the second year running hosted and arranged by @Yasvar. Three teams battled it out to see who was the best in the WOWS division. The winners of this cup was Team @Stracht, @warrior11, and @Konarider443. Congratulations! Also:
A special thanks to @Yasvar and @L.A.M.Gunner for the awesome commentary.
Special awards to @howells5 for best kill and torps
@Optimus for "Cant touch this"
@Shodprism for turbo pleb
@Cyclops_123 for big balls
A massive Well Done to @Stracht for winning his 3rd tournament in a row. In his words, "Humbleness, thy name is stracht."
This month we entered the King Of The Seas world tournament. It was exciting times for the Hydras as this was the first time we have entered the world championship. In the run up to this event we came across the SO3G clan and trained with them, befriending and making a new ally in the process. Even though we didn't win the qualifying matches, we didn't go down without a fight. The result was a 2:3--even though our team was not optimal manned. Honourable mentions to those involved:
Going forward we have now set up an 'arena' were we are meeting other with clans for friendly, competitive and dare I say it outrageous game nights.
Clan battles are around the corner. This next season we will break through into the next league. And, the EU vs NA clash is around the corner! We will see if NA can keep their title or die trying..... See you next month!
The Division 2
Many members have taken an uncanny interest in Washington, D.C.--its alphabetic street names, its wide and crisscrossing avenues, and its green spaces at large intersections. Its seeming ode to classical Greek, Roman, Egyptian Revival, and French Second Empire architectural styles. Its unreasonably low building height limit set forth in its zoning code. Its dizzying array of federal and local police jurisdictions, its inept city council, its artificially-created "neighborhoods," its lack of style. Its awful public transportation system and its lack of foresight, its painfully-crowded streets during morning and afternoon rush hours....let me stop. No this isn't because of some bizarre, out-of-nowhere interest in Pierre L'enflant's grande plan for Washington, D.C., nor is it because of the influential @Jason99vmi and him being a tour guide for the city, nor is it because you can view the former abode of @thebronxbomber there (it's true).
This is because of The Division 2! A sequel to Tom Clancy's The Division, this game brings the same style of play you loved in New York to Washington, D.C.! We have been regularly playing with a sizable group since release day. Come join in on the action! Chat to us in the #shd_comms_channel or hit us up in voice in either of the 'The Division 2" channels! Contact @BillyBantam for more information.
