The above image should help you understand our clan structure. It is a simple, standard three-tier hierarchical structure. The elements basically tell you what type of general role are you playing in our relatively-sizable organization.
COMMAND ELEMENT - All the way at the top leading the Fighting 13th and her Command Element is the Commandant. The Commandant's second-in-command is the Deputy Commandant. Assistant Commandants serve as the highest level of staff members within the Executive Staff and oversee broad functions within the clan. These two are tasked with overall responsibility, leadership, management, and progress of the clan, welfare of the membership, finances, and clan outreach. While it is a big goal, staff officers--who themselves may lead a small staff contingent--help in this manner by overseeing certain areas in the clan, such as management of personnel, information and public affairs, finances, and server and service administration.
GAME DIVISION - Under the Command Element are the Divisions led by a Commanding Officer and co-led by an Executive Officer. The game division is the basic unit for each game, and even multiple games, for all platforms. The game division is where things happen on a bigger-scale in the clan. Recruitment is set up at and for this level, general game discussion happens at this level, and overall management per game happens at this level.
COMPANY/SQUADRON - Within the Division are its Company(s) or Squadron(s). The Company or Squadron is led by a Company Commander, someone who is usually a Captain. A Company may have several Lieutenants who serve as second-in-commands and other secondary functions within a Company--officially as Platoon Leaders. A Company as our basic unit within the clan is named and can range anywhere from a handful of members to several dozen--Companies are split per Division usually on regional lines but are not bound by just that. Companies and Squadrons can be split into smaller, unofficial squads and teams but do not have to be.
Ranks is our system of denoting a member's experience and level of devotion within the clan and what he or she may have accomplished, as well as denoting where a person may be at in the organization, whether a Division Officer or as a "Trooper" in an Armored Squad (aka a Squad Member in a squad that specializes in Armor).
Our simplistic rank structure is just that, very simple--it is comprised of eleven ranks and each correspond to a general level in the clan. We have "officer" and "enlisted" ranks but our structure is rather linear compared to that of modern-day [western] militaries. Also, most ranks require several things such as time, prior positions held, ribbons/awards earned, etc; but, officer ranks are usually not moved through unless a member attains a higher position within the officer hierarchy. Here is a more detailed description of our ranks and their requirements starting from the lowest to highest:
Command Element - Executive Staff
The Commandant is the overall person in charge over all clan affairs. This rank and position is currently held by Commandant thebronxbomber.
The Deputy Commandant is the second overall in charge over all clan affairs. This rank and position is currently vacant.
Assistant Commandants oversee broad functions within the clan--such as Personnel, Logistics/Finance, etc.
Command Element - Division Staff
Colonels are the Commanding Officers of their Divisions. They are responsible for overall recruiting, for activity, and general welfare in the game(s) of their Division as well as foreseeing upcoming developments in their game and similar games.
Majors serve primarily as Executive Officers of Divisions. A Major will oversee several Companies under his or her command and will do the work of the Commanding Officer if need be.
Captains serve primarily in the Company Commander position. A Captain will supervise a handful of Lieutenants and Sergeants as well as up to several dozen members in his or her Company or Squadron. Captains oversee the day to day responsibilities for their Company or Squadron such as recruiting, training, and deploying personnel for competitions and tournaments.
Lieutenants serve primarily as Company Officers and seconds-in-command of Companies. Members can usually apply for a Lieutenant position within his or her Company or more frequently, members are invited or appointed to serve as Lieutenants. Lieutenants are the lowest of the executive supervisory ranks.
Squad Members/ Company Members
The lowest tier of our ranks comprise the following four ranks. Currently, these ranks are all earned automatically provided the member in question is "active" for a certain amount of time, which is shown below. Company Officers (but, really anyone in the member's hierarchy) are supposed to submit their members for promotions.
